Key sites for regeneration

Key sites for regeneration - Avondale

An empty lot that once housed a supermarket, Avondale Central is one of the keys to unlocking the potential of Avondale.

We envisage that this prime location in the middle of Avondale will be used for both living and shopping, with its mix of retail at ground level and new homes above. Locals will also use links through to Racecourse Parade and Central Reserve.

The Avondale Central block currently contains Central Reserve, Housing New Zealand (HNZ) land on Racecourse Parade and other development sites. It’s one of the locations we’re working on within the 68-hectare regeneration area covering central Avondale.

Other locations are:

  • The primary retail area of Great North Road and the commercial area to the east, between the retail strip and Avondale Train Station.
  • The Highbury Triangle block, bordered by Rosebank Road, Ash Street and Great North Road. It contains the library and community centre, HNZ land, and a vacant, Auckland Council-owned residential site.

Auckland Council has a number of landholdings around the town centre, as shown in yellow in the image above.
