We’re preparing this site for future redevelopment to enable more housing options in Avondale.

These efforts are part of the wider Eke Panuku regeneration plans to revitalise Avondale through investment to deliver improvements that will serve the community in the future.

Our contractors will deconstruct the buildings as opposed to demolishing them, so the materials can be re-used where possible, or recycled.  This helps reduce waste that goes to landfill and greenhouse gas emissions.

  • Recycling of materials such as doors, windows and joinery to facilitate the distribution of these items to community groups and charities.
  • Reusing of materials such as timber, metal and concrete.  Timber suitable for reuse will be set aside, while metal well be sent to processing facility is for recycling.  Concrete will be granulated and repurposed for commercial and domestic fill for temporary roading.

28 August - Update on Progress

The first phase of deconstruction has been completed by removing joinery and salvageable materials for recycling and reuse. The next phase will involve dismantling the buildings structurally, starting with the row closest to Great North Road.   This will involve:

  • Increased noise as heavy machinery is used to dismantle the buildings and extract further recyclable materials.
  • Increased on-site activity with 5+ large truck movements per day.
  • Work occurring from 7 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
