A new bridge connecting neighbourhoods.

The project was the final piece of the puzzle to achieve the wider programme objectives of extending the walking and cycling network into central Manukau

The previous narrow timber pedestrian bridge was tired and not fit for purpose and was in much need of an upgrade. The new steel bridge is more fit for purpose, provides low maintenance and accommodates walking and cycling. The bridge was built in its current location using the existing abutments leading to a new widened approaching footpath. The bridge was also raised to limit slopes and ramps making a more accessible connection. Chicanes were included to discourage high speeds and unwanted vehicles entering the bridge. The bridge is a width of 3m meters providing a shared path with ample space. Handrails on either side providing a rest point along the bridge for those that may need it.
A mural is currently being installed on the large transformer to help inject some colour into the surrounding (should be completed this weekend and I’m planning to get some photos on Monday that could be uploaded)
Soft landscaping with a large selection of native plants and some productive trees are being planted and will be completed by the end of September 2023.
